Stand Up For Your Business with Coordinated Advocacy

Fight for your business’s best interests! NEBBA is a powerful voice representing district businesses on critical issues. Our strong relationships with neighborhoods and local government, plus advocacy support from Venture Portland, help us deliver the message that the health and needs of businesses are critical to a vibrant NE Broadway/Weidler business district and a strong local economy.

Some issues we’ve worked on over the past year:

• Mitigating the impact of City proposals (street tax, Paid Sick Time, minimum wage, water/sewer fee increases etc.).  On the street tax (now on hold), we advocated to reduce the proposed business street fee from as much as $5,000/month to $3-$144, remove landlords as tax collectors, and lessen consequences for small business owners filing as an S-Corp.

• Collaborating with the City of Portland and area stakeholders on the Comprehensive Plan and Transportation Systems Plan to push for improvements on NE Broadway/Weidler. Our goal: a major streetscape project to transform our business district: improving customer and neighborhood access, smart integration of transportation modes, and a better overall street-level environment. Submitted letters to the City advocating for this project and others that would benefit the business district and continue to work with them on plans.

• Exploring the long-term impact of new mixed-use development, zoning guidelines, and parking and transportation changes on the business district’s customer access, parking needs, and leasing rates. We're advocating to make sure that parking nmeeds of businesses are prioritized.
